Eteoninae Bergström, 1914
Mystides Théel, 1879
Mystides cf. notialis Ehlers, 1913
Voucher. SEA LION: station 7MFC.
Diagnosis. Small and slender species, voucher specimen slightly desiccated; likely complete, but antennae, tentacular and anal cirri missing; 8mm long and 0.35mm wide; preserved specimen yellow in colour, with dorsal cirri with light brown pigments and ventral cirri with dark red pigments.
Prostomium almost rounded, with a pair of black eyes positioned in the middle of prostomium; prostomial appendages missing. Proboscis not observed. Tentacular cirri missing. Dorsal cirri lacking on segment 3, otherwise present; rounded to ovoid, somewhat inflated, lightly pigmented, relatively small (not exceeding the tip of neuropodia). Ventral cirri similar to dorsal cirri, but smaller, slightly wider than long; with dark red pigment. Chaetigerous lobes, narrow, conical, of similar length, with one acicular and about 9 chaetae. Chaetae compound spinigers, with slender unidentate blades with thin tips; the rostrum without any pronounced teeth, only series of small, fine serrations. Pygidium not observed.
Remarks. One species in genus Mystides is known from the region, M. notialis Ehlers, 1913 (type locality: Kaiser Wilhelm II Coast). Falkland Island specimen is similar in shape of prostomium, shape of dorsal and ventral cirri and presence and position of eyes. Given that important diagnostic features such tentacular and anal cirri are missing or not observed (proboscis) in Falkland Islands specimen, we prefer to assign this specimen to morphospecies Mystides cf. notialis until better specimens become available.
