Pholoidae Kinberg, 1858

Pholoidae are here treated at family status, although molecular studies suggest that pholoids belong to Sigalionidae (Struck et al. 2005; Wiklund et al. 2005). Genera and some species of holoidae were reviewed by Pettibone (1992). Pholoidae were neither abundant, nor species rich in offshore waters of Falkland Islands.  At least two species were recognised and these are summarized in table below.

Pholoe sp. 1

postero-lateral margin with few, sparse elongated, slender papillae

rugose - composed of irregular cells, with very few, sparse, tiny microtubercules

Pholoe sp. 2

posterior and postero-lateral margin with few, sparse, elongated, slender papillae, which are enlarged basally

smooth,

with some sparse, microtubercules
